Knowing the value of a rug you are considering to purchase is extremely important especially when you want to buy a rug from online auction sites.  When you are shopping for a Persian rug, you need to make sure that the prices don't deviate much, if at all, from the actual retail value.  If the price of the rug you are interested in is much higher than its actual value, you are being ripped off.  However, if the price of the rug is much lower than its actual value, you could be looking at a rug which is just a cheap imitation of its genuine, hand-made version.  Please be cautious both ways!
